Comments on the Presidential Election…

•November 7, 2008 • Leave a Comment

The real and the only reason why the people don’t get a receipt of how they voted is because you would be able to buy votes. Starbucks said they would give anyone who voted a free coffee about a week ago. By the time the election actually happened they changed their policy and anyone who asked for a free drink got one. It is and should be illegal to prove you voted for anyone.

All the electronic voting machine hacks were done in an environment where they could hack the machines not in a voting environment. I think that makes a big difference. I do agree that you can hack anything given enough time and access. But even in New York, on the old style lever machines people were watching everything you did.

There is no way to make sure every vote counts unless you can give proof to the voter and the election officials. But if you do that then you will have people buying votes.

You can’t win. I’m not sure what the right solution is, do you?

I voted for the first time during this election, only because I had no choose. I thought my voting place was at the school across the street. And I went there at about 12pm and I had to wait about 45 min before they told me which district to vote in and where in was in that school. When I got to the voting booth they told me I had to go to another school a few blocks away. I then asked for a paper ballot and got one. I filled that out and voted that way.

You guys said earlier that you can’t walk into any voting district and vote. You are wrong. You can always request a paper ballot and vote anywhere, especially in NY. They had plenty of paper ballots. (Maybe they thought there was going to be a problem, but I saw hundreds of paper ballots at every table.)

I did vote for Obama. But I know my vote especially in NY does NOT count. The Electoral College makes it not count. And the president has less power than most people think. I know you guys know the power or lack or it of the president. Just because he got in doesn’t mean anything will change.

And the guy who called up is right. The Electoral College votes for the president never the people. And over 150 electors in history have voted against their states. He isn’t president-elect until all the votes are counted and mainly when the electors vote. I won’t sing in the street until its official.

Finally, I think you should be encouraging people to change the Electoral College. Having people understand and want to change the system is very important to change it. The popular vote should stand, always . People should understand that their vote does count for every election except the president. And there have been a few times where the popular vote didn’t count, not just the one time in 2000.

We only care about the electoral college about 4 moths before and after the presidential election. The only way it will change if we remember it always and try to change it.

Thoughts on podcasts…2

•July 2, 2008 • Leave a Comment

I was a little sleepy so i didn’t end my last post well.

It seems that most podcasters are running the podcast like a radio show. Most of the popular podcasts are run by people who were on radio and now are podcasting. Since they had set times then they seem to think they need to have a set time for the podcast. I think that thinking is wrong. If the listener enjoys the podcast they will listen to the whole thing. Maybe not at the same time but they will listen to it all.

People with no radio experience that have podcasts are usually less rigid and just go with the flow. They seem to know that as long as they are interesting or informative people will listen no matter how long it is.

Leo Laporte is differnt though. He runs the TWIT network. When he started, I think, he was thinking in terms of radio and limited his podcast to a set time frame. Now hes streaming video of all the podcasts as he records them. Hes also not worrying about how long they are because he knows people will listen anyway.

(Hes now streaming audio and video 30 to 40 hours a week. Even when hes not online in the middle of the night there are usually 1000 people lurking.)

I’m talking about audio podcasts here though. I watch most video podcasts on my Tivo or on my ipod. But I agree they should be shorter. It takes alot more badwidth because the file sizes between a 15min clip and 30min clip are huge. I don’t want to watch a 30min show on my ipod, the screen is just to small. If I got all my podcasts on Tivo it might be a differnt story.

Thoughts on podcasts…

Since I have no real job and no life I listen to a lot of podcasts.  My favorite podcasts are This Week in Tech and Buzz out Loud. The podcast networks i mostly listen to are Twit.tv and Cnet.

I’ve been noticing that alot of the podcasters keep saying they are running out of time or have some set time for the podcast. I understand that with some podcasts they might not have time to do 3 hours a day. What I don’t understand when they do have the time and still want to talk but still stop because of some set time in their heads.

For example I was listening to No Agenda the other day and they didn’t think anyone would listen to them for 2 hours. I listen on my train, while i’m working and anyother time i’m out of the house. Since i don’t have a radio this is my only outlet.

Any way enough for now.

My "fake" job… Chacha

•June 30, 2008 • Leave a Comment

If you follow me on twitter or have meet me you know that i have a job being a guide for chacha.com. Its an interesting if weird job.

“Simply text your question to 242242™ (spells ‘ChaCha’) or call 1-800-2ChaCha™ (800-224-2242) from your mobile phone to ask any question and you will receive the answer as a text message. If you have a web browser on your phone, just click on the short website link that’s also included with your answer to see a reference website with more information. Since ChaCha uses human guides, you can easily reply with follow-on questions as if you are exchanging messages with a friend.”

I do get paid 20 cents per answer and i can do it any time I want to. Since its powered by humans and totally free to the users i get asked anything and everything. Some of them are things i can look up on Google and some are just random. The opinion ones are usually easier to answer though.

Anyway try it out and see if you like it. If you get a wrong answer let me know.
